Roman shades are a timeless classic in window coverings, offering a perfect blend of style and functionality. Whether you’re redecorating a single room or updating your entire home, understanding the latest trends in Roman shades can help you make informed decisions that enhance your living space. Here’s a comprehensive guide to the current trends in Roman shades for Idaho homeowners.
What Are Roman Shades?
Roman shades are fabric window coverings that can be raised or lowered with a cord system. When raised, the fabric stacks evenly in horizontal folds, providing a clean, streamlined look. They are known for their soft, modern polish and are perfect for any room where you want to add a touch of elegance without overwhelming the space.
The Modern Take on a Classic
Hunter Douglas’s Vignette® Modern Roman Shades elevate the traditional Roman shade with advanced design and functionality. These shades are available in both rolling and stacking options:
- Rolling Style: The only Roman shade without internal lift cords, the fabric rolls completely into the headrail for unobstructed views.
- Stacking Style: No exposed cords for enhanced safety, providing an impeccably clean and uncluttered look.
Innovative Light Control
One of the most significant advancements in Roman shades is the integration of light control features. The Vignette Modern Roman Shades offer the Duolite® option, which combines a flat-fold light-filtering or sheer front shade with a room-darkening panel on one roller. This allows for seamless light control and privacy adjustment.
Customization Options
Roman shades today come in a variety of styles to suit different tastes and needs:
- Flat Style: A sleek, modern look with a single piece of fabric.
- Batten Front: Fabric folds with battens sewn on the front, adding texture and dimension.
- Batten Back: Battens sewn on the back create a more structured appearance.
Optional linings on the back hide lift strings and add layers for light control and insulation.
Top-Down/Bottom-Up Roman Shades
For homeowners looking for even more versatility in light control, top-down/bottom-up Roman shades are an excellent choice. These shades can be opened from the top down, bottom up, or a combination of both, offering the ultimate flexibility:
- Living Rooms: Adjust shades to protect furnishings and flooring from UV rays while still enjoying the view.
- Bedrooms and Bathrooms: Maintain privacy and natural light during the day.
