Why Drapery?
Drapery is a beautiful way to add an extra element of design. Drapes are effective at sound control and energy efficiency. Can be very flexible so we can tie it into any interior design.
Types
As you select drapery, you have many options to choose from.
- Roman shades are a timeless statement piece.
- Roller shades in addition to drapery can look great for curb appeal.
- Side panels are a space-saving solution that give you the look of drapery while providing a lighter look with less fabric.
- Cornice boxes are an awesome way to hide blackout shades by concealing the rollers.
- Valances are 8-10″ boxes at the top of your window, adding color or flare to your window covering.

Compatibility
Drapery can be paired with…
- Roller shades: Drapes can cover the gaps on the sides of roller shades and a beautiful designer flourish.
- Roman drapes: Use the same fabric or a complimentary fabric.
- Cell shades: A lot of people love the functionality of a cell shade, and the drapes can add a touch of “wow”.
- Shutters: Shutters are beautiful, but they’re another hard surface. A drapery side panel completely changes the room, softening the look right away.
Design Considerations
- Blends well with traditional, modern, and contemporary. Depends entirely on what fabric you use.
- Light control options include sheer, light filtering, and room darkening.
- Drapes fill light gaps. If you have blinds, you can’t fully cover the “light gap” around the windows. Drapes can fill this role.
- Can go dual for hotel-style light control. You can get a sheer drape and room darkening drape. Or you can get a light filtering roller shade and a room darkening drape
- Drapery takes time to care for. Can be feather dusted and vacuumed with an upholstery brush. Will generally need to be dry cleaned once every 3-5 years. (Do not put them in the washing machine!) The less you take them down and put them back up, the nicer they’ll look.
Automation
Drapery is very suitable for automation. The bigger the drape, the more you’re going to want to automate. Or it will be super heavy and hard to move. We offer both Somfy and Lutron, the two most popular automation systems in the market today.
