Cleaning Your Cellular Shades

How to clean cellular shades, Hunter Douglas, Norman®, and Graber near Meridian, Idaho (ID)

Choosing the perfect cellular shades can be difficult. Once you’ve found the ones you love, you want to keep them looking new for as long as possible. To do this, one thing you need to do is keep them clean. Not sure how? Keep reading, and we’ll tell you!

Cellular shades are often called honeycomb shades due to their unique shape and structure. Portrait™ Honeycomb Shades are available in an array of rich, high-performance fabrics to complement any interior decor. Honeycomb shades also increase your home’s energy efficiency. The cells that form the honeycomb shape also trap air to keep your home warm in winter and cool in the summer.

Removing Dust & Stains

You can use your vacuum’s hose on low suction to remove any surface dust and debris from your cellular shades. Don’t feel comfortable using your vacuum? A microfiber cloth works, too. If you spot a stain, try to remove it quickly before it has time to set into the fabric. You can easily remove stains with minimal dish soap or laundry detergent mixed with plenty of water. Strong detergents of any type are more likely to damage your shades. Do a spot test on an inconspicuous area of your window covering and remove the solution quickly using a towel. If you see a mark, dilute your solution more. No mark? You’re ready to start removing stains!

Use a sponge to apply a small amount of the cleaning mixture to stains. Blot with a towel and repeat if necessary. Remove any remaining cleaning agent immediately with a clean towel. Stop once your blinds are clean, as too much exposure to cleansers can damage your cellular shades.

Ongoing Upkeep

For those of you with fashion-forward homes, you want your cellular shades to be, as well. Graber CrystalPleat Cellular Shades have all-new, designer fabrics that are excellent contemporary style. Hunter Douglas offers Duette® Honeycomb Shades with the most color, texture, and pleat options in the industry. You can make cleaning your cellular shades easier in the future by cleaning them regularly, rather than waiting until they are visibly dirty. Every time you vacuum your home, vacuum or dust your window coverings, too.
